Chief minister M.Karunanidhi on Thursday presented Rs.3 crore to the World Cup-winning Indian cricket team and awarded Rs.1 crore to off-spinner R.Ashwin, the lone member of the squad from TN.
Making the most of the presence in the city of India, captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Suresh Raina, both of whom play for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, Mr Karunanidhi presented them cheques for Rs.21.42 lakh each at a small function at the new secretariat complex.
Deputy chief minister M.K. Stalin and senior ministers attended the function. Mr Karunanidhi presented cheques for the other players of the team to BCCI secretary N. Srinivasan. An avid cricket fan, Mr Karunanidhi lauded them for their historic feat that came after 28 years.
