In a bid to meet the plastic shortage required for laying roads, Chennai corporation has planned to place bags in all houses and schools to collect low micron plastic from people. A senior corporation official said that corporation employees would reach out to each and every household in the city every Wednesday to collect thin plastic materials.

The employees will also visit schools and colleges to collect plastic waste from students generated in educational institutions. A black bag will be placed in the educational institutions and students can dispose of the carry bags and fine plastics in the bag and the staff will procure them every week. The same system will be followed in households, the official explained.

Members of public can also mail details of plastic waste available with them at plasticwaste@chennaicorporation.gov.in. Plastic waste collected through all these channels will be used to lay quality roads comprising bitumen and plastic content, the release said.
