“T Nagar, which was once a posh residential area and now a commercial hub will soon be a ghost town with no residents and only commercial buildings. Our neighbours are selling their properties owing to acute traffic congestion and poor civic amenities“, a group of residents in T Nagar, opined at a griev ance redressal meeting organized by Exnora international on Saturday.
The members of public came down heavily against the city corporation and the Chennai city traffic police for their failure in handling encroachers and illegal commercial buildings.
“The number of unhealthy road side foodlets are mushrooming and the uphazard vehicle parking goes unchecked during peak hours,” said Mr Sridhar, president, Raja Street civic innovators club.
“Garbage from north Usman road is dumped along the interior roads of T Nagar and shoppers use our streets as public toilets”, said Ms. Murali Krishna, a local resident.
Both the corporation and police remain mute spectators and there is no respite for the local residents, alleged Ms.
Usha Sugumaran, a resident of Thomas street.
Reacting to the grievances, T Nagar legislator V.P. Kalairajan said that all the petitions received will be forwarded to the concerned departments seeking action. Field officials from civic, traffic police, metro water and EB would be contacted for specific complaints, the MLA assured the residents.
