A tribute to the King of Pop
I wanna be MJ by Nicholas Productions comes to town amidst all the hoopla over the late icon’s birthday celebrations the world over.
A musical about the King of Pop has to be about MJ all the way — all of his hit numbers with long break dance moves and moonwalk sequences thrown in for good measure.
I wanna be MJ, starring Denver Anthony Nicholas, was all this and more.
The story about a young boy who shuns his parents’ dream for him to become a dancer and choreographer, the musical is like a family entertainer with a little something for all. Laughter, romance, tears and even the quintessential homosexual fashion designer, the musical veers towards the clichéd but redeems itself with some good renditions of MJ’s hit tracks and well-rehearsed performances by Denver’s talented troupe.
