Bankura, January 26 (ANI): As the nation celebrates its 63rd Republic Day on Thursday, an impoverished elderly couple living in the tribal interiors of West Bengal continues to live on the brink, stung by years of government apathy and neglect. Reeling under abject poverty and financial distress, Sahadeb Shabar has been living a life of trials and tribulation, despair and agony with his wife Sami Shabar in a village near West Bengal s Bankura district since the past several years. Looking at their condition, it seems hard to believe that this aged couple was once invited by the central government as special guests to attend the Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi in 2008.
